Issue No. 042 — Est. 2011

A studiofor brandswith ink in their veins.

Kraft & Press is a six-person independent studio in Lisbon working at the edge of identity, editorial, and print. We make brands that feel handled — by people, with tools, over time.

— Manifesto —

“Fast enough to be useful. Slow enough to be remembered.”

We keep our client list short on purpose. Every identity leaves the studio with a bound book of notes, proofs, and the stamps we made along the way.

§ 01 — The Pressroom

Three disciplines.One long-running conversation.

Every engagement lives in one of three rooms. We treat the boundary between them as porous but never blurred.

Brand Systems

Marks, wordmarks, editorial rules, and the long-form guideline book that carries your voice into every surface a reader will meet.

Editorial & Print

Monographs, annual reports, catalogues and zines. We work press-side with binderies we trust and leave with a copy of the proof.

Slow Digital

Small, fast, durable websites that are written for reading and built to last. Single-page sites, archives, and long-form journals.

§ 02 — Recent Plates

§ 03 — On the Bench

Four movements,one long engagement.

01

Listening

Two weeks of reading, studio visits, and long conversations. One short memo at the end.

02

Drafting

Three routes explored in parallel — marks, systems, sample spreads. We show two we believe in.

03

Refining

Weeks of revisions across every surface the identity will meet. We prefer what is wrong over what is right.

04

Handover

A bound book of guidelines, the working files, and a day in the studio with whoever will carry the work forward.

§ 04 — In Figures

A finished Kraft & Press book is the closest I have come in twenty years of publishing to an object I would want to keep in its own drawer.

We came in expecting a logo and left with a way of describing our work that our board still quotes three years on.

They made the annual feel like something our team wanted to read. The following year, we asked them back for everything else.
